Clara Button and The Wedding Day Surprise by Amy De Haye & Emily Sutton (V & A Publishing)

I will never cease to be mesmerised by picture book art because of beautiful books like this one.

In Clara Button and The Wedding Day Surprise the pages are filled with colour and detail. Just like the delightful pages, Clara Button is a delightful child who loves to make clothes and hats for her toys. Her brother is an inventor too. One day the postman arrives with a wedding invitation.

Throughout the book she plans her outfit and visits the haberdashery to buy sparkly jewels  and sequins for her outfit. The haberdashery page is my favourite… reminds me of such stores I loved to visit while in India! So colourful!!

Clara’s idea to add some more colour to her wedding day ensemble, becomes a disaster. But Clara is one to always turn a mess into something impressive. The wedding ends up being  quite a surprise and her brother also surprises everyone with an interesting invention that fits right in with the wedding!

Clara Button is such an endearing character and the illustrations are works of joy. I hope you checkout this enjoyable book.

Suggested read aloud age 4+. Recommended for a confident reader.
