This is a wonderful story of friendship! Emily Gravatt tells a heartwarming tale and her illustrations are vivid and striking, full of gorgeous little details.
Cyril is a squirrel who lives in beautiful Lake Park. He is all alone and in the opening spread, he is obviously bored. But that all changes when he meets Pat. We can see that Pat is a rat, so can all the other creatures in the park- the annoyed pigeons, cranky ducks and the grouchy dog, Slim. While the others immediately judge Pat with preconceived ideas about rats, Cyril can only see Pat as a clever, fun, sharing & caring good friend. Eventually, the others get to him and Cyril becomes lonely again. Not to worry, the story does end with a happily ever after!
A strong message on the absurdity of judging by appearances!
The rhyming text is fun to read and flawlessly rolls off your tongue, perfect to read out loud. Emily has crafted wonderful scenes of Cyril and Pat’s blossoming friendship, which will definitely leave a smile on your face! The playfulness in the text and pictures will appeal to children, especially all the fun and silly things the two friends get up to! On the last page, see what happens to Slim the dog!!
